Shocked & Surprised at How Good.
written by JRRansom, July 21, 2010
I was shocked and surprised when my waitress, Angel, offered to make me a Cesar Salad from scratch right at the table. I enjoy trying Cesar salads all over the world, so I jumped at this chance. Angel explained that Antonio had been looking on the Web and had found Cesar Cardenas' original recipe and method for preparing his famous salad. She began with some anchovies, then used avocado as a binder, rather than egg. Later, I had a steak with mashed potatoes and some grilled veg. The portion was huge and the taste wonderful. I was thinking, 'This is one of the very best deals in town. Everyone should know about this.' Sabor by Antonio is the third restaurant owned and operated by Antonio Mares, who seems to be becoming the king of the Taos restaurant scene.
Perhaps the worst meal I've had in New Mexico

On or aboutr September 13, 2010, two friends and I chose to eat at Sabor. We sat down and there was a sewage smell, but other places in town were closed (it was a Sunday) so we stayed. The waitress told us about the luscious menu, my dish would have maine lobster on it , she went on to describe the food as if we were in gastronomic paradise..the avocado tossed salad was made with a delicious avocado dressing. ot will be madet right at our table, the waitress takes our orders and disappears, the other gal came to our table and started making our promised delicious dressing...we watched her prepare it, she puts no avocado into the dressing nor salad. (we try to tell her about it but "no english") I called over the waitress and she now told us that the luscious full of avocado salad was now made "we put just a little bit of avocado in the dressing to bind it". There was no sign of avocado at all in the dressing or salad, we request some guacamole and whole avocado to make our own avocado salad "full of avocado", as the waitress had promised. The food arrived, my dish had some kind of seafood on it, not the promised lobster, perhaps cheap lagostinos? My friends crepes were described as being the best thing on the menu, they were bland and quite unremarkable. While there, the bus boy fell a few times, the salad gal dropped a whole tray of glass items, then there was a fire in the kitchen. The waitress lied to us, the food was not anywhere near what she had described,
