The Shadows Lounge & Grill in the Plaza de Colores is just the sort of place that Taos has needed for a long time. Shadows does it very well. Part sports bar, part fine dining, part easy-going luncheon spot, part modern American western saloon, and part disco, Shadows Lounge & Grill is a special restaurant in Taos. The restaurant is in one of the newest buildings in Taos, yet Shadows Lounge & Grill has the comfortable feel of what Taos is all about. Shadows has a long full bar with a beautiful dark mahogany bar-back (complete with 3 built-in high-def screens, an additional long eating bar with bar stools, a large dining ares with marble-top tables and sturdy, comfortable chairs..., and Shadows also has a really cool road-side patio for dining and drinking. Shadows Lounge & Grill also has a fine stage set-up complete with lighting and a top-quality built in sound system.
At Shadows Lounge & Grill look for excellent Dinners, such as: 12oz Ribeye Steak - house-cut & grilled Angus ribeye with Chef's savory sauce served with mashed potatoes and calabacitas, Blackened Salmon - 6oz Cajun spiced Salmon filet, cast iron seared with Buerre Blanc, confetti rice and grilled spinach, 10 Oz Pork Chop - breaded with herbs & broiled, served with applesauce, mashed potatoes and calabacitas, Fried Chicken Plate - with mashed potatoes and buttermilk gravy, Meatloaf - 10 Oz slice of 100% Angus Beef green chile meatloaf with choice of gravy or ketchup and served with fresh vigie and mashed potatoes, Chile Rellenos - 2 green chiles stuffed with Jack Cheese, battered and fried with choice of pork red chile or vegetaarian green chile and served with pinto beans, lettuce, tomato & sour cream.

J. R. SEZ: We sure liked our visit to Shadows Lounge & Grill the other day. Shadows Lounge & Grill is part of the new breed of restaurants in Taos that offer really excellent service, excellent tasting food, and a very comfortable modern yet relaxing atmosphere. The Shadows Hamburger can only be described as "sumptuous". Look for the Shadows Burger to knock off Orlando for the title of Best Burger in Taos. The Shadows Rueben is truly excellent - really good, very tasty.We had some onion rings that were fantastic - they didn't fall apart like even the best of them. We really enjoyed their Key Lime Pie for desert. The coffee really makes it, too - light and flavorful. A Number One J. R. "Wow" for this new place. They did a lot right - including the tin ceiling, the dark mahogany wainscoting. Feels sort of like the "old" Colorado feeling only nicer. There are 8 high-def big screens on the walls and the built-in sound system and real stage lighting makes Shadows the best spot for sports and disco-type dance events. There are marble top tables and solid sturdy, comfortable chairs. This place will surely be a town winner and I know we'll be back again, many more times. Thanks, Jillian!Shadows Lounge & Grill
