Saffron (zah’fa’ron)- saffron, botanical name crocus sativus, is the most expensive spice in the world. Derived from the dried stigmas of the purple saffron crocus, it takes anything from 70,000 to 250,000 flowers to make one pound of saffron. Moreover, the flowers have to be individually hand-picked in the autumn when fully open. Fortunately, only a little needs to be added to dish to lend it colour and aroma; to much makes the food bitter and large quantities of it can be toxic.

ChocolateCHOCOLATE

Chocopologie- made by Knipschildy Chocolatier,, this incredibly expensive chocolate costs around $2600 per pound. A single dark chocolate truffle  costs two hundred fifty dollars, and has a real black French truffle – the mushroom – inside.

They’re available only on pre-order, and are made entirely of Valrhona cacao – seventy percent per bar. This is blended into a ganache using real truffle oil, then the truffle itself is hand rolled, whith the dark French truffle inside, and dusted with high quality coca powder.

The word ‘Almas’ means diamond, a fitting name for the world’s  most expensive caviar. This beluga caviar is white in appearance. The  most expensive caviar comes  from the beluga sturgeon, native the Caspian  sea. Generally, the lighter the color of beluga caviar   the older the fish is. The word caviar comes from the Persian word “khag-avar,” meaning “ the roe- generator.” The only known outlet is the Caviar House & Prunier in London England’s Picadilly that sells a kilo of the expensive almas caviar in a 24-karat gold tin for £ 16,000, or about $25,000.

The most expensive ice cream sundae in the world in called the “ grand opulence” sundae and was created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Manhattan restaurant serendipity 3/ at $1,000 the most expensive item on their menu became the official record holder as the most expensive ice cream sundae in the world!

Serendipity describes the Golden opulence Sundae as Follows: “5 scoops of the richest Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream infused with Madagascar vanilla and covered in 23k edible gold leaf, the sundae is drizzled with the world’s most expensive chocolate, Amedei Porceleana, and covered with chunks of rare  Chuao chocolate, which is from coca beans harvested by the Caribbean Sea on Venezuela’s coat. The masterpiece is suffused with exotic candied fruits from Paris, gold dragnets, truffles and Marzipan Cherries. It is topped with a tiny glass bowl of Grand Passion Caviar, and exclusive dessert caviar, made of salt-free American Golden caviar, known for its sparkling golden color. It’s sweetened and infused with fresh passion fruit, orange and Armagnac.

A modern and more expensive version of the club sandwich was just created in Berkshire, England by James Parkinson, the Executive Head Chef for the von Essen Collection.

Costing £ 100 ($197 USD), the recently launched “von Essen Platinum Club Sandwich” is now the world’s most expensive sandwich. We should note that you can’t eat the expensive sandwich anywhere but at the Cliveden’s Waldo Restaurant in Berkshire, which boasts a Michelin Star, one of the most distinguished culinary ratings.


TruffleTRUFFLE

A real estate investor and his wife from Hong Kong have paid €125,000 ($160,406 USD) for a gigantic Italian white Alba truffle which is reportedly the world’s most expensive ever. The most expensive truffle weighs in 1.51 kilograms (3.3 lbs).

The Dome Restaurant is Bankok, ?Thailand served up what was billed as the most expensive meal ever sold his past weekend. The six chefs who prepared this expensive meal were flown in from France, Germany an Italy. As for the guest-list, it was made up of 15 people, mostly real estate and gaming moguls from across Asia and the United States. The cost of the most expensive meal was about $30,000, not including tax and tip.

Shetland Island-based Blackwood’s Distilleries is introducing Diva Vodka, the world’s costliest liquor, in India. The price: $450,000 (or 1.9 crore Rupees) for 750ml.

The high cost is because the vodka bottle is lined with Swarovski crystals and diamonds. When the vodka is poured, it comes filtering through these gems. The cost of the vodka depends upon the  quantity and quality of  the gems. The company intends to launch some economy models priced around Rs 2 lakh (about$4,200) per bottle , and even these would make Diva Vodka the costliest liquor in the country.

The most expensive wine ever sold in bottle of 1787 Chateau Lafite which sold at Christie’s London in December, 1985 for £ 105,00 (about US $ 160,000). The wine is reported to be from the cellar of Thomas Jefferson, the former US President, and this most expensive bottle of wine had the initials Th.j etched into the glass bottle.

Champagne is often drunk as part of a celebration, and when celebrating success many feel the need to exhibit their success. The most expensive champagnes are about image and not just what’s in the bottle. The most expensive champagne in the world sold at auction inn 2005 actually sold for $17,625 for just one bottle.

Johnny Utah’s uses a $300 bottle of Herradura Suprema tequila to mix the vault, along with grilled-lime juice and agave syrup. Notably missing from the mix is any sort of orange liqueur, though the syrup may make up for that. The drink costs $51 and was touted as the most expensive margarita in 2007

CognacCOGNAC

Called Henri IV Dudognon Heritage after the French king whose descendents have been producing this wine since 1776, this particular wine was aged for 100 years in barrels that were air dried for five years before use. The final product is 41% alcohol (82 proof). The final price of this costly cognac is £1 million (around $2 million USD)
