5 Star Burgers sets Duke City opening

5Star Burgers Taos’ 5 Star Burgers will make its Duke City debut Friday, March 19, with a 2,800-square-foot restaurant in the North Towne Plaza in the Northeast Heights.

Owner Bob Gontram has plans to open five restaurants over the next four years in northern New Mexico. The new Albuquerque restaurant will hire 30 to 40 employees (15 to 20 will be full time). The North Towne location, at Wyoming and Academy in Albuquerque, is his first location outside Taos, where he opened two years ago. Gontram has more than 30 years of restaurant experience, having operated more than 100 restaurants as a franchisee, franchisor and an independent owner.

The S.Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards has tonight named Grant Achatz’s restaurant the Best in N. America coming in at number seven topping a meteoric rise for the chef up the list of the S.Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants in the past few years.

The USA has no fewer than three restaurants in the top 10 alone this year; the others being Daniel (number 8) and Thomas Keller’s Per Se at number 10. Daniel, the much feted New York restaurant which is a temple to seasonality is also the highest riser shooting up 33 places to break into the top 10.

World's 50 Best Restaurants 2010 Listed

Noma, Copenhagen The 2010 winner of the S.Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants is Copenhagen’s Noma. Run by 32 year-old head chef Rene Redzepi.

The illustrious list is compiled by The World's 50 Best Restaurants Academy -- an 806-member panel of the globe's most venerated chefs, food critics, restaurateurs and gourmands.

"The list creates tremendous debate -- and it's meant to," according to the World's 50 Best release.

Eight of the restaurants crowned this year -- Alinea in Chicago, Illinois; Daniel, Per Se, Le Bernardin, Momofuku Ssäm Bar, wd~50 and Eleven Madison Park in New York; and The French Laundry in Yountville, California -- are in the United States, this year's most honored country.
